Digital Citizenship Day: Increasing Social Empathy and Digital Wellness 10.25.19

Our 4th annual Digital Citizenship Day is built especially for YOU. The Midwest Education Technology Community (METC) is connecting innovative learners every day.  We invite you to join us for Digital Citizenship Day on Friday, October 25th to meet others like you and learn how you can be motivated to make a positive change by increasing your social empathy and digital wellness.

Whether designing avatars for online platforms, sharing pictures through social media or communicating through texts to colleagues and friends, we have countless opportunities to express ourselves through digital media. We have become a plugged in society to stay-in-the-know, keep up with new inventions and learn the latest innovative ideas. However, what are we doing to protect ourselves and understand others? How are we addressing social empathy and digital wellness?

Our digital world requires good choices and appropriate etiquette. The need for how to reach learners and what resources are available increases questioning and the evaluation of sources. Therefore, ideas for becoming more aware of cultural differences, engaging in civic responsibility and taking informed action will be shared.

Supporting disconnected time both inside and outside of our educational settings should be modeled by educators. Learn techniques for stretching and exercising your mind and body to focus on your digital wellness.

We will bring experts, educators, parents and students together to learn and share how we can educate and support all learners to be good digital citizens, increasing social empathy and digital wellness.

DigCit Day will:

  • Address cyber-bullying and model positive social behaviors
  • Support positive digital change through collaborating with others
  • Address digital literacy and media literacy by exploring resources
  • Share action steps for protecting and educating ourselves while using online platforms
  • Provide motivation for social empathy and digital wellness

Follow us on social media, watch our website(s) for more information, and bookmark the #EdPlus and #DigCitDay hashtags to learn more.
