This session will explore effective and meaningful uses of technology to empower students through authentic and relevant learning experiences. When students publish work online, they want it to be really good...when they turn it into the teacher, they just want it to be good enough. You will be equipped with practical ways to publish your student work online in their classrooms.

Retro Rehab Library Learning Spaces

Retro rehab your library learning spaces by reusing and recycling your library's furnishings. This is library make-over on a shoestring budget by bringing in vintage furniture, shopping your district's storage closets, and planning minimal purchases for collaborative learning spaces. Follow Northwest High School Library's third year of JumpStart freshmen classes' collaborations to introduce Chromebooks and Google apps in new spaces. Take home "retro" ideas to rehab, reuse, and recycle your current library bookcases, tables, and chairs. Plan flexible collaborative spaces and use professional development ideas to share with your teaching colleagues. We will explore visual and auditory applications using Google Docs, Slides, and Drawings, Adobe Spark, YouTube editor and screencasting apps so you can start tomorrow!

Explore space through 3D printing; make music and light up your world with Makey Makeys, Little Bits, and Dash and Dot robots; draw code using Ozobots; and tie everything to literature and research as you collaborate with your building's art, music, and library teachers. You'll walk away with units of study on each of these topics as well as apps and books to support learning in each area.
