During this special luncheon, Joquetta Johnson will provide an engaging session on how to develop an understanding of why we must have P.A.S.S.I.O.N. for our profession. Ms. Johnson will infuse music and video to engage, inspire, and move participants to hone their craft with L.O.V.E. You will see how you can cultivate your skills as a digital learner and leader through the use of media and literacy. After launching a very successful MakerSpace last year, we are now tweaking our MakerSpace to keep it innovative, engaging and fresh for the students. You acquired the space, secured the stuff, and invited students but now what? How do we continue to harness the excitement, inspire innovation, broaden the library's purpose, and continue to engage patrons? You will have opportunities to learn about interactions in Makerspace movements, strategies, mobile Makerspaces, practicalities, and programing directions. Just as the librarian is evolving so too are the programming options. The Makerspace movement is an emerging juncture where students can learn and practice innovation skills which can elevate the library's purpose and enhance collaboration opportunities that broaden the library's influence. Discussion will be around innovation topics like: augmented reality, virtual reality, Google products like Expeditions, coding, game design, circuitry, and 3-D printing.

 

Making Your Classroom More Introvert-Friendly

How do you include the voice of students who don't necessarily want to use their voice? Nearly half of our students are introverts. They may be silent – but their minds are active! Many of us include "class participation" in our grading. We need to evolve our teaching to include their voices - even if they don't want to use their "voices" - there are loads of ways to educate them & help their voices emerge. Come learn about tools to engage introverted students – whether they be online tools, cell phone tricks or old-school paper ideas.
