Full STEAM Ahead: Next Stop MakerEd
(BYOD Session - 9:45am - 11:40am)
The move from STEAM to MakerEd is an emerging trend in elementary classrooms across the country. In this BYOD two hour, hands-on session, we will explore together! You will be given the opportunity to explore resources and tech tools that will help elevate your own understanding of how powerful MakerEd in the elementary classroom can be. Teachers considering how an elementary makerspace can take student engagement to the next level will find this interactive session practical and captivating. We will begin by engaging in module challenges that include robots, 3D printing, coding, & circuitry to identify the academic and social learning involved. We will then discuss how to build a makerspace considering management, operation, and content learning. You will leave this session KNOWING how a makerspace for lower elementary can be managed in the library or in the classroom. *Bringing a laptop or iPad is highly encouraged!

Gamify Your Students Into Success

We all know that even the lowest student in class can tell you everything you ever wanted to know about their favorite MORPG (Multiplayer Online Role-Playing Game), but they can't remember the content for your class. What if there is an almost foolproof way to get that student to remember and understand classroom content? Gamify your classroom. You don't have time for games, you say? In reality, you don't have time not to gamify! We will take a look at how easily and effectively gamify lessons and homework by adding game enhancements to your lessons.

Genius Hour is the hot new way to get students involved in your classroom with Project Based Learning, by utilizing technology, and by letting students control their learning and creation. Learn to develop and research a question for just a few minutes of each class period that leads to a culminating project and presentation. Teachers will leave with ready-to-use Genius Hour documents they can modify to fit their classrooms as needed, they will learn about the why and how of Genius Hour, and above all they'll gain knowledge about increasing student achievement and critical thinking through the use of Genius Hour.

Getting a Handle on Video in the Classroom: Pedagogically, Organizationally, and Financially

This presentation is designed to help educators EVOLVE in how they use video to meet student learning needs. We will explore tools to locate, curate, and edit videos for learning. From tools like collaborative YouTube playlists to embedded assessment in EDpuzzle, we will explore free resources for curating and editing video and the opportunities for collaboration with and among students and colleagues. You will explore strategies for locating valuable videos, improving your own videos to scaffold learning, and fostering critical thinking by engaging students in the entire process. Leave with tools for using video, including advanced features of YouTube (collaborative playlists, editing timeline, YouTube Live), EDpuzzle, narrated presentations with Microsoft PowerPoint and Google Slides.
